Carnival is for everyone: people of all ages and abilities are welcome and you need no previous arts experience.
At the heart of Cardiff Carnival are 3 weeks of FREE carnival arts workshops. These take place at the Carnival Camp in our NEW location: Fitzalan High School, Lawrenny Avenue, Leckwith, Cardiff, CF11 8XB.
The LAUNCH of the Carnival Camp is on Monday 21st July 6.30pm – 8pm: meet the team, see the designs and enjoy live carnival entertainment from the Carnival Crew or transform yourself at our Pop Up Carnival.
The Carnival Camp is open daily (including Sundays) from midday to 8pm from Tuesday 22nd July to Thursday 7th August 2014.
Our expert team will help you to develop your creative ideas, show you how best to use the materials on offer and teach you how to dance for the parade.
You’ll never forget the skills, fun and friends you’ll make, both along the way in the Carnival Camp and as you parade on carnival day.
Please note children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Cardiff city centre comes alive: enjoy FREE family fun on the carnival stage in The Hayes (10.30 - 4.00) featuring glamorous carnival costumes, hi-energy dance, samba drumming as well as quirky street theatre, Brazilian martial arts, live music, family-friendly burlesque, magic shows and surprise flashmobs.
Wales’ most colourful carnival parade transforms Cardiff city centre with hundreds of glitzy sequined costumes, upbeat sounds from massed samba drumming and funky streetbands - even a horde of flag waving rollerskaters!
Follow the parade from the new starting point at the ATRiuM and down Queen Street and through The Hayes to the Street Jam in St Mary’s Street (4.30pm approx.).
The 15 minute Street Jam is an animated halt in the parade: a riot of carnival sound and vision featuring specially rehearsed sets.
